The uncle is as big a fool as the kid; BIGGER. If this is the kid's role model -- with rampant profanity and sagging pants -- what else does he expect?
I felt the same way.

Wow !
that's sooooo crazy!

Yall got to admit...it was funny how he was trying not to cry as he got beat....and his uncle dont even look like he was really whooping hard.    I bet he take that stuff down.    LOL

I tip my hat to the uncle. he was right on spot with what he did, the way he said it and everything else about it. The maddness has to stop. Telling these little fellas to go sit down for a timeout or whatever is not working and has never worked. Sad thing is the uncle may get arrested for "abusing" his nephew!

I remember having my butt whipped like that in the principals office by my grandfather as a 12 year old and he never had to come to a school again to deal with his grandson!

It baffles me how we can continuously condone coarse, abusive behavior. Yes, what the young man did was clearly wrong...and stupid. But he's a kid, and a Facebook posting can be removed.

Nevertheless, the uncle  -- supposedly the more "mature" of the two --has not only behaved boorishly, he has also subjected his nephew to a possible lifetime of humiliation by posting this on Youtube. It can be saved and played literally around the world for the rest of this young man's life. What effect do you think that will have on the kid, other than to create a lifetime of humiliation, resentment and anger?

On this site, people are continually asking what's wrong with our youth. Well, look at the role model this kid has: an uncle who takes some sort of sick pride in publicly humiliating him while using the most vile, profane language imaginable. And while looking like any thug on the street. Oh, yeah, that's DEFINITELY going to teach him a better way to behave. Would unc like to be spoken to in the same way? Oh, wait...maybe he WAS. Maybe that's why it's the only way he knows to provide guidance. Generational insanity, and it keeps on going.

We have completely adopted and internalized the ways of our original abusers, and we will fight to continue using those methods on our own children. The slave master beat black slaves, and we just continue to do it. They talked to the slaves like they were subhuman and we continue to do the same thing with our own children. And we wonder why the kids misbehave. Well, if you were only spoken to like you were less than human from the beginning of your life, how would you behave? That anger and frustration has to go someplace. So, please, don't complain when the cops or other authority figures treat your kids like dirt, because you started it. Emancipation apparently didn't do anything except free our bodies, because Mister Charley STILL has our minds.

Wow ! how can it be so baffling when you agree that what the kid did was wrong and stupid? Cant see that connection at all Ma'am! It also a stretch to say that this being on the Internet will subject the kid to a lifetime of humilliation on Youtube. Would if be preferable to have this kid go out one morning  and be mowed down by one of those "proprely raised ' thugs on the streets who took offense to his seemingly kid-like posting on Facebook?

its so easy to stand back and see what we want to see in things like this. The uncle being compared to a thug is simply mean-spirited at best and iggy at worst. When people have been touched by crap they will deal with crap as crap only responds to crap sometimes.

So yes I agree wholeheartedly with the way Uncle dealt with it. Had the brat been mine , I would have had him drop those pants so he could get the full amount of love I had for him!

BTW , the slave thingy is a bit of a low blow ! LOL

What baffles me is how profanity, coarseness and humiliation can be thought to be an instructive tool. I think the video is evidence that, for the most part, children learn what they live. Obviously there are exceptions, but generally that's a truism. So, yes, what the kid did was wrong and stupid. What the uncle did was wrong and stupid, and being an adult, he should be held to a higher standard. Is THIS the example he wants to set: screaming curse words into a video camera while your own pants are hanging below your butt? Really? Tell the truth: if you didn't hear the audio, and only looked at the visual, you'd think the uncle was the gangster. I compared uncle to a thug because he behaved like one.

"When people have been touched by crap they will deal with crap as crap only responds to crap sometimes." I rest my case! This young man is being touched by crap and being treated as crap, and I'd venture to say this isn't the first time. Thank you for proving my point.

And you may believe the slave thing is a low blow, but you can't dispute it's truth. We learned way back then that the only way to deal with "us" is by abuse, and we just continue to abuse each other. Look at young mothers yelling at toddlers and telling them how bad they are. Look at brothers calling sisters bitches. Look at sisters calling brothers losers. Better yet...just look at this video.

BA,

DAAAMMMNNN!! lol

Wow and wow again! One-size-fits-all doesnot even work when choosing a pairof socks! why must you feel it works when it comes to discipling a child? I never said that your kid-glove approach was THE wrong way or had no merit. You claimed that the way the uncle handled it was ABSOLUTELY the wrong way, which to that I disagree.

Besides once again you assumed that the uncle had not tried to "talk" to the child. You even go further by degrading the uncle for his profanity, coarseness and humiliation ! Ok you dont like his style which matters not at all! But to your credit i will concede any amount of point-proving honors you need ! You do agree there are exceptions!!!!
And in doing so you also indicate that even you dont fully agree with all you have written . On the other hand I stand by what I said word for word!

BTW, that truth you claim about "us" and slavery makes no sense. That truth you claims says that "us"are not capable of knowing the difference between whipping a child out of love for them as opposed to whipping an azz to subdue and control a people in order to secure the next crop of cotton! Bit then too , the slave masters did believe "us" to be unequipped with a brain to think at all. Perhaps that is what has been internalized in the thoughts you have put forth on this!

Please, if you are going to mischaracterize what I say, at least TRY to mischaracterize it in a manner that is somewhat SIMILAR to my actual statements. But I guess that wouldn't serve the purpose of mischaracterization, now would it? I never said that one-size-fits-all when raising children. Nor did I ever state that no one had attempted to talk to the child.

Frankly, only a fool would think that there are not exceptions to anything, especially given the vagaries of human behavior. That doesn't mean that I waiver in my beliefs; it means that I'm intelligent enough to understand that there are no absolutes. Funny thing is, I also knew that this would be the statement that you jumped on like the last lifeboat off the Titanic. But trust and believe, I don't need you to concede anything to me.

I don't like his style, that's true. But, I've lived long enough to know that those of you who ascribe to the "Cuss-Him-Out-and-Beat-His-Ass School of Child Development" are in no way open to considering that such behavior is not the most productive. Beat a person with a lash, he learns to love the lash. Can't you just hear the chorus in the distance? "Ol' Missa Charley a good ol' massa. He know he got to beat us niggas all the time, 'cause dat's the only way us niggas gon' learn to do right." Of course, since Missa Charley showed us the way, we've been abusing our kids for hundreds of years. But...if that works, why aren't we as a race farther along than we are?

Yes, I do degrade the uncle for his coarseness, profanity, humiliating and showboating. Why wouldn't I? Frankly, I find it rather amazing that you don't.

No group of people in this country has been more beaten, cursed, humiliated and abused that we (by someone else and by ourselves), and no group in this country is farther behind. Could it be that maybe that doesn't work as well as you think? Oh, wait, I know: MORE CUSSINGS AND HUMILIATION FOR EVERYONE!

Peace.
